Alexander van der Bellen
Alexander Van der Bellen (born January 18, 1944 in Vienna) is an Austrian politician and economist. The former Green politician was proclaimed as the ninth Federal President of the Second Republic on January 26, 2017. The ancestors of Alexander Van der Bellen emigrated from the Netherlands to the Russian Empire and settled in present-day Estonia. During the Second World War, Van der Bellen’s parents moved to the former German Reich, because Van der Bellen’s father had to fear repression of the Soviet secret service. The parents came to Vienna via Memelland and a resettlement camp, where Alexander was born in 1944. The family fled again from the Red Army, this time in the Tyrolean Kaunertal. Van der Bellen studied and worked in the field of economics at the Universities of Innsbruck and Vienna. Until the end of the 1980s he was a SPÖ member. From 1997 to 2008 Van der Bellen was federal spokesman for the Greens and led the party to new votes highs. Later he moved from the National Council to the Vienna City Council and Parliament. On January 8, 2016, Van der Bellen announced his candidacy for the 2016 presidential election. On December 4, 2016 he was elected in a third round with 53.8% to the Austrian Federal President. The immigration of refugees dominated the election campaign thematically. Van der Bellen risked the sympathy of many voters with a clear position on a humanitarian refugee policy, which he substantiated with arguments for the economic benefits. Similarly, Van der Bellen unmistakably identified the EU as a peace achievement, which must not be endangered. 2017 Federal President Alexander van der Bellen participated in the 12th APC Peace Hike.
My Testimonial for Flight-Stone 2
"With the violation of the dignity of men, with the rejection of everything, strange, the restriction of fundamental rights and freedoms and with new walls and nationalisms, we do not solve a single problem, on the contrary, we create new ones. Individuals stand up and show respect of human dignity - regardless of their origin, religion or social milieu. Peaceful coexistence begins in our own homes, at work, in the village, in the region. Peace after the horrific and inhumane years of war is an achievement of our civilization we can be proud of. Based on these shared achievements and experiences, let us do our utmost to continue to work for a world of peace, respect and prosperity. "
