Julya Rabinowich
Julya Rabinowich was born in 1970 in St. Petersburg (then Leningrad) in a family of artists and emigrated with her family to Vienna seven years later. She studied interpreting at the University of Vienna and began studying at the University of Applied Arts Vienna in 1998 with a focus on painting and philosophy. She graduated in 2006 and also completed a psychotherapy training. Since 2006 she has worked as an interpreter in psychotherapy sessions for the Vienna Integrationshaus and the Diakonie Flüchtlingsdienst. In addition to the 7 plays that she has previously written and which were last performed on various Viennese stages, she has published in anthologies and wrote essays and reports (among others for "Der Standard" and "Falter"). For her debut novel "Spaltkopf" (2009), she was awarded the Rauriser Literaturpreis for the best prose first release. In 2011 the novel appeared in English translation. Julya Rabinovich lives as a freelance painter, writer and simultaneous interpreter with her daughter in Vienna.
