Joanna Nittenberg
Joanna Nittenberg grew up as a refugee child in Vienna-Leopoldstadt and was a member of the Hashomer Hatzair. In 1970, she completed her studies in German and newspaper studies at the University of Vienna with a dissertation on the journalistic analysis of the world stage with the Weimar Republic, with particular reference to Kurt Tucholsky. After the subsequent collaboration in the culture department of the ORF, she took over (first together with Marta S. Halpert, who retired in 1991) the direction of the "Illustrated New World" whose editor-in-chief and publisher she is still today. In addition, Nittenberg holds numerous functions in Jewish and Zionist associations, such as on the board of the Jewish Institute for Adult Education and the Austrian Friends of Beit Hatefutsot.
