Anita Pollak
"I was born in Budapest in 1949, where my parents, both Shoa survivors, met. Just a few weeks after my birth, our family came to Vienna, which was intended as a stopover before emigration to Israel, but ultimately should prove to be the terminus. I grew up in Vienna, studied German and graduated with a doctorate at the University of Vienna. After working in Vienna and at Harvard University I got into journalism. I worked for the newspaper "Standard" and later for more than 15 years as an editor for the "Kurier" in the fields of culture, literature and books. Today I am retired, have three grandchildren from my two daughters and work as a freelancer for the magazine "WINA" of the Jewish Community. There, too, my article on the APC on the occasion of the 70th anniversary in 2017 appeared. As a refugee child who grew up with stories of survival and sadness, I feel very close to this wonderful project and its history, and many of the supporters are familiar to me."
